Frida's Story

Another child I’m excited to meet for the first time in July is Frida Rachel.

Frida with her same-age friends.
Frida is 13 years old and the size of an 8-year-old, although no one knows why. In February of last year, she began to have severe trouble with her breathing, as well as chest pain. She received some asthma medication but it didn’t make much of a difference for her. That May, she went blind—and has since received partial sight in one of her eyes. A few months ago, a doctor said that Frida has a swollen heart, but there were no tests to prove this. On top of everything, Frida is having painful trouble with her spine—and she simply does not grow.

Frida’s status as a partial orphan makes it difficult for her to receive serious care from hospitals. As I wrote a couple of weeks ago, orphans carry the reputation of being less valuable. Frida has not received the tests and medical care she needs again and again. Thankfully she has a director named Michael Mutai who is determined to help her find answers.

Three months ago, Frida was sponsored for the first time, which is taking a tremendous financial burden off the shoulders of her widowed mother.

In two weeks, Michael will bring Frida and her mother a full day’s journey so they can receive medical exams at a clinic in Eldoret that has overseen other CRF kids. For the first time, Frida will be treated seriously by medical professionals—and they will regard her with respect. Hopefully we will be able to find some answers for her.

I am excited to spend some time with Frida and get to know the little girl I’ve prayed for these last few months. Be in prayer for her time with our team in Eldoret, that Frida can get the medical answers she so desperately needs.
