Karisa's Story

Today I will highlight two more CRF programs that the team will visit next month.

About an hour outside of Kisumu is the slightly more rural village of Alara. Here there are two CRF projects: Lakeside Orphanage and the Alara Orphan’s Day School.

This place is beautiful and full of precious children as well as tremendously capable staff. In the courtyard of the Alara school is a striking garden that the children help to tend. Ask any one of these kids for a Bible verse and they will rattle off several without hesitation.

The sponsored children at Lakeside and Alara are well-spoken, well-dressed, and well-fed. They are outgoing and friendly, and as they grow up, they are becoming influential adults—like my friend George who is now in law school.

I am thankful for the CRF workers that manage and care for these beautiful programs. How the children there are thriving says a lot.

By the time I arrive next month, I’ll have the chance to see a much-progressed Alara High School that will equip these students to shine more than ever before!

A few weeks ago I talked about Horace, a boy at Oasis of Hope who desperately needs surgery on his hip. There is a child at Alara with a similar problem. Little Karisa is only 11 years old, but he is struggling medically. The bone in his fibula grew infected and died—and now he needs to have it removed. When Horace goes to have his hip replaced, Karisa will likely go as well for a life-changing surgery on his leg.

Pray for Karisa, that he and his mother can receive medical answers about what will be best for the quality of his life—and pray for his pain and healing.
