Fun Trends: Lipstick and Eye Shadow

How should you wear your makeup this year?  Darks, brights, lights, nudes?  Should you focus on dark eyeshadow or none at all?  Is Marilyn Monroe lipstick back in style?  Let's see.

Eye Shadow

Two of the most popular eye shadows this year will be nudes, smokey, and bright shocks of color.

In this case, the more natural (and absent) your makeup looks, the better.  Put on an eye shadow the same color as your skin tone, if one at all.  Unless you have naturally black eyelashes, try to wear minimal mascara in light browns.  It will even work to wear none at all.  Healthy and natural is "in" this year, so if you don't like makeup, enjoy the break.

Smokey.jpgSmokey and Dark
Especially during this winter, dark and smokey eyeshadow is in style.  Wear dark grays and silver.  Make a dramatic contrast with your skin.  If you don't know how to apply smokey eyeshadow, there are many YouTube tutorials that you can watch.  I like the smokey eyeshadow look, so long as you don't apply it too dark on a casual day.  It's very wintery.

As spring rolls around a few months from now, shocks of color where your eyelids are supposed to be will be in style.  In my opinion, this look is a bit gaudy and ugly, but for girlie-girls especially, it should be fun.  Try mixing contrasting colors, such as a pretty pink on the lower half of your lid and yellow or gold on the upper half.  Mix and match and experiment before you go out in public.  You don't want to look too silly with this fun fad.

Lipstick

Just like with eyeshadow, if you wear no lipstick at all, you will be in style.  However, do not wear lip gloss of any kind this year.  It is not "in" this year.  Try to keep your lips matte, but not necessarily chapped.  If you want a tiny bit of color (if your lips are very pale), try dabbing a light color of blush on your lips... not enough to make them bright, but enough to stain them with a little color.

Red.jpgReds
Bright, bright reds are "in" this year.  The brighter, the better.  Dark reds will also work.  Pinks will not be as "in" this year.  When wearing bright or dark red lipstick, be sure that it will not stain your teeth.  There are few things more embarrassing then red-smeared teeth when talking to strangers, or even worse... your crush.  Before you wear it in public, make sure your red lipstick will stay on your lips.

Orange.jpgOranges
This personally repels me a little bit, but according to everything I've read, bright orange lipstick will be in style starting this spring.  I personally don't think that orange lipstick is very attractive, but if you like the look, then go for it.  Purchase a bright orange color from your local drug store.  Again, the brighter the better... just make sure not to smear on your teeth.  According to the experts, orange lipstick will highlight your eyes and any highlights in your hair.  Hmm... I'm still not sure I like the look.
