Modest Trends: Jackets, Jackets, Jackets

Much to my surprise and delight, jackets are "in" this year.  I adore jackets.  I'm nearly always feeling chilly, so I keep a jacket with me most of the time.  Other than the typical t-shirt material jackets that I often wear, some unusual styles of jackets are in style this year.  A great thing about jackets is that they add an extra layer to your outfit.  They can help to keep a spaghetti strap shirt modest.  Keep warm this winter and see for yourself which jacket you like the best.

Personally, leather is not my style, but leather jackets are in this year.  The biggest issue with leather is that it's expensive, and if you're vegan, you won't want to wear it, since it's made out of... well, dead animals.  Faux leather will work, but it won't be the same quality as a real leather jacket.  Studded black will work, but so will a casual brown leather jacket with a cute blouse and skirt.  It's all up to your style.  If you're into modest versions of what celebrities wear, check out Michelle Trachtenberg in a leather jacket to your left.  On your right is a cute distressed leather jacket for $46.99.  You can find it here.

To be honest, I'm not a huge fan of velvet or corduroy jackets either, but they're also in.  Try bright red or deep purple.  Deep colors are in this year, but black or beige will also work for this style of jacket.  Be sure not to wear colors that are too bright and gaudy beneath your jacket, or you will draw too much attention to your outfit and draw the risk of clashing too much.  You'll want to look bright, but not too bright.  For a celebrity example, check out Gennifer Goodwin to your left in a pretty velvet jacket.  I'm actually liking the beige jacket to your right.  It's a little pricey at $148, but you can purchase it here.

Denim jackets go in and out of style each passing year.  I have a denim jacket, although I don't wear it often.  Be sure not to wear your denim jacket with actual blue jeans.  They will clash (or even worse, match!) and you will not pull off a stylish outfit.  Instead, be sure to wear your denim jacket with a cute skirt or cotton dress.  Black pants and a cute blouse will also work with your denim jacket.  I've heard that hooded denim jackets will be in style this year, although I have yet to see one.  What I like about a denim jacket is its diversity.  You could go all western with a plaid collared shirt, a denim jacket, and cowboy boots or you could wear a pink skirt, flats, and frilly blouse with your jacket.  It's all up to you.  Jessica Simpson is wearing a blue jean jacket and a flowing summer dress to your left.  Check out this lightly distressed denim jacket to your right.  It's at a pretty good price for only $32.99.  You can buy it here.

I kind of like the military jacket style.  This style is famous for big buttons, flip collars, and plenty of zippers.  Some crazy versions have padded shoulders.  Most military jackets comes in military greens, reds, navy blues, grays, and blacks.  Celebrities like Rihanna are bringing the military look into style this year.  I'm not a big fan of the ribbons, pads, and giant buttons, but I like the casual look of the military jacket style.  Check out this cute Nordstrom military style jacket for $52.

What is your favorite kind of jacket?
