Fun Trends: Prom Accessories

Today I'll be sharing some prom trends that will be popular this year.  What accessories should you wear to prom? What about shoes?  Jewelry?  These will all be featured in today's post.

Dress Embellishments

Flowers

Flowers are a super cute addition to any outfit, including your prom dress.  Many dresses this year will come with added flowers, like in the picture to your left, but if your dress doesn't come with a flower and you want to add one, go to your local craft store and match one or two of their provided flowers with your prom dress.  All it will take is a hot glue gun and some creativity and you'll have a cute flowery dress.

A good place to wear your flowers is on your waist, like in the picture to your left, on one of your shoulder straps, or in your hair.

Bows

Bows are in style this year, which I love.  I think bows add an adorable flair to an otherwise simple dress.  Check out this amazing bow to your right.  I don't absolutely love the neckline of that dress, but I love the bow.  It's big enough to make a statement and it doesn't clash with the overall look of the dress.

You can home-make your bows if you're good at tying those things and picking out just the right fabric and ribbons for that sort of thing.  Personally, I could never pull something like that off; I can't make a pretty knot worth anything.

Crystals and Beading

Crystals and beading as embellishments for your dress are still in style.  I think they're quite pretty, especially when they're used to make pretty designs like flowers and swirls.

I love the pretty crystal belt on the dress to your left.  It's simple but elegant and fits the style of the gown perfectly.  In many cases, less is more.

Watercolors and Big Floral Prints

This season, watercolors and floral prints are popular.  I love this style; I think it's beautiful.  Wearing a watercolor printed dress will be like wearing a watercolor painting.

I like the style of the gown to your right.  It's loose enough to be modest and it isn't entirely sleeveless.  I also love the pretty watercolor design.

When you wear an elaborate watercolor dress, be sure to wear little jewelry.  You don't want to look over the top.

Colors

When it comes to what colors are trending this year, everything I've read has been perfectly clear.  This year's prom dress colors are: green, teal, fuchsia, pink, and yellow.  Of course, the simple black dress will always be in style as well.

Accessories
Shoes

The popular colors for this year are simple rather than bright.  Try getting a pair of ballet flats or kitten heels in black, silver, or gold.

What I did a couple of years ago was purchase a pair of short black heels.  With nearly any dress I've worn since then, I've been able to wear the heels.

Try pointed or open toes and feel free to embellish the shoe with small tassels, flowers, or bows.

You can find this pair of heels at this website for $62.99.

Jewelry

When you're searching for prom jewelry, go for something simple.  Don't look for anything that resembles bangles or bling.  Instead, try a simple pearl or jeweled necklace.  Even a simple one-charm necklace will work.  If you went without a necklace, that would also be fine.  You can wear more extravagant earrings, but you want everyone's focus to be on your dress, not on your jewelry.

Purses

When searching for the right purse, be sure to choose something low key.  Try a small leather clutch.  A simple shade of black or a pale pastel color will work perfectly.

I love the color of the purple suede clutch to your left.  It's cute, but it's still elegant and dressy.

When you're looking for the perfect clutch, remember that it should work with your dress, so be sure not to choose a color that will clash with what you're wearing.
