Five Things: Aggie Football

1.) Today is the big TAMU/Florida game.  I'm a bad Aggie and didn't buy a sports pass, so I am currently studying instead of at the game.  So bad!  But I have participated in the surrounding activities a bit, specifically MIDNIGHT YELL, which is one of my favorite things in this town.
Last night was first Midnight Yell of the season.  For those of you who aren't familiar with Aggie terminology, Texas A&M does not have cheerleaders.  We have yell leaders.  Throughout the game, the student section of Texas A&M University will stand up (the entire time) and participate in yells to cheer our team to victory.  Midnight Yell is basically a practice of our yells and passbacks and a way to get extra pumped up for the game.

I'm not sure how many people showed up to Midnight Yell last night, but I heard it was around 40,000.  Wow!  It was packed, loud, and so exciting.  Events like that make me so proud to be an Aggie.

Since the game is still going on, I'm not sure who will come out the victor today: Florida or TAMU.  So far, it looks like we're going to pull a win.  All I can say is BTHO Florida!  I may not be at the game this afternoon, but I am there in spirit, sitting a mile away, checking ESPN religiously in between studying, and I am eagerly cheering for my team.  A-A-A-A-AAAAA!

Gig'em!

2.) Lindi, one of my best friends from middle school came to visit last weekend.  We hadn't seen each other in probably two years, for real.  We had so much fun looking at pictures and videos from our past and sharing stories that are so embarrassing to look at now.

It was great to catch up with Lindi.  I'm so glad she came to visit Aggieland.

Here we are on our 8th grade trip...

and here we are now, sophomores in college.

Much better, right?  (I still have a love for blue...)  We actually look a lot the same, I think, even though 5-6 years have passed since the first picture.  I could probably find a more awkward one from sixth or seventh grade, but I'm not sure I want to share one of those.

3.) Living in a house with a stove is a good reason to begin some cooking endeavors.  The problem is, I can't cook.  Like at all.  I can hardly turn on the oven without help.

I heard that it's more common to gain weight your sophomore year instead of your freshmen year, so I went into this semester feeling a little concerned.  However, I've been dropping weight so far because I don't have a meal plan.  Cooking is not my thing, so I haven't been eating a whole lot.  A lot, a lot, a lot of sandwiches, deli turkey, fruit, and salads.  The occasional bowl of cereal.  And that's all I've been eating!  Not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing.

All of my roommates are precious.  I've been friends with Rebecca for years and years and years and she has taught me how to cook a few dishes.  We made dinner for some other high school friends and Rebecca taught me how to make cookies and mashed potatoes!  So I'm getting better.  Kind of.

Sandwiches are basically my meal plan for the rest of this year though.

If you have any quick, fairly inexpensive, beginner meal ideas, it would be fantastic if you shared them with me.

4.) School hasn't gotten extremely hard yet, except for the fact that I'm having trouble reading my textbooks because of hitting my head two weeks ago!  I actually feel pretty silly saying this, but focusing long enough to write this blog post has caused my head to hurt a lot.  It's pitiful.  I'm so, so ready for my concussion symptoms to go away.

But thankfully I haven't had any tests yet and the quizzes I've taken have all been manageable.  I'm glad that this semester, I don't have any long, difficult days of school.  I'm not sure I could mentally handle that right now.  The way I'm functioning right now is studying for 15 minutes, rest for 5, study for 15, rest for 5.  I'm sleeping a lot more than I ever have before in my life, but it's the only way my mind can focus for very long without hurting

On the upside, one of the freshmen from my Impact Basic Group gave me his old longboarding helmet!  He is my hero now.  No more concussions, ever again!

5.) As for the fifth thing, I'm not sure what to say.  A lot of things are going on in my life right now.  I have an activity every single day of the week and I'd love to share all of it, but I'm afraid it would bore you to death.  All college life.  Friends and organizations and Bible studies and ministries and sandwiches for every meal, even breakfast. :)

But life is good.  Tell me about yours.  What are you up to lately?  What's going on in your world?

  3. I just read this now, but I have a meal idea that's yummy and easy. It's called "Migas". For a family portion, you whip up six eggs and add a quarter-cup to a half-cup of salsa, and scramble them together. You can also toss in some onions, fresh herbs, cheese, or other veggies, if you like. You can roll it up in a tortilla, or just eat it plain. (If you like avacados, it's good served with those, too) :) It's warm, relatively quick, and really good! Hope it helps,
